Something Greater Than Faith

How important would you say that Faith is? On a scale of 1 to 10, where would you rank Faith? Would it be a reasonable statement to say that our Salvation rest upon the foundation of Faith?

Ephesians 2:8-9 (KJV)

8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

And yet, the Scriptures clearly state that there is something greater than faith.

We know that “Charity” is Love, but which “Love”? There are four ancient Greco-Christian terms which can be rendered into English as “love”.

1. Eros – refers to “passionate love” or romantic love

2. Storge – familial love

3. Philia – to friendship as a kind of love

4. Agape- God’s love

It is Agape that the writer is referring to in 1 Corinthians 13, and in this text, it’s God’s Love within us. Now let us look at the first three verses, replacing “Charity” with “God’s Love Within Me”.

1 Corinthians 13(KJV)

13 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not “God’s Love Within Me”, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. (An irritating noise)
2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not “God’s Love Within Me”, I am nothing.
3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not “God’s Love Within Me”, it profiteth me nothing.

It’s one thing to say you’re a Christian, it’s another to live a Christian life. We must start each day showing God’s amazing love through our life. In our walk, in our talk, in every aspect of our life. What good is our faith if we never exercise God’s Great Love? The world can eros, the world can storge and can even philia, but it can not Agape.

The Greatest of these is…..
